Swan Districts forward Chris Yarran has been awarded the Gas Plus Player of the Round award for his seven-goal haul against Peel Thunder in Round 1 of the WAFL season.

The award, presented by Information Radio and Heritage FM is a weekly prize of $50.

Swans won the clash at Rushton Park to give new coach Brian Dawson the best start to his coaching career.

Swans were triumphant 19.19 (133) to 15.11 (101) with Hayden Ballantyne bagging five majors for Peel.

The Thunder shot out to a two-goal lead at the first change, but from then on it was Swans who impressed, especially through West Coast rookie Ryan Davis and talented youngster Nicholas Naitanui.
