WAFL Round 7 Preview - WAFL Heads to Kalgoorlie

SUBIACO v PEEL @ KALGOORLIE

It’s Peel’s turn to find out just where they are at this week when they travel to Kalgoorlie to take on league leaders, Subiaco.

The Lions have passed every test so far this season and have already brushed aside improving teams in Swan Districts and Perth when they dared to believe they could challenge the back-to-back reigning champions.

The Thunder are seeking a third consecutive victory, something they have achieved only once in the short history, after narrow wins over East Fremantle and Claremont.

Peel recorded the upset of the year when they knocked off the Lions last season so Subiaco are sure to be wary of them on the occasion.

Subiaco spearhead, Brad Smith has kicked 21 goals over the past three weeks and with Blake Broadhurst also in top form, the Lions’, forward line looms as a major concern for the Thunder.

Prediction: Lions by 41 points

WEST PERTH v EAST FREMANTLE @ ARENA JOONDALUP

For the second consecutive week East Fremantle has an opportunity to move off the bottom of the ladder when they take on their closest rivals, West Perth.

The Sharks were disappointing last week, losing at home to East Perth and will be hoping for a much improved performance against the struggling Falcons.

As is often the case in 2008, availability of AFL players at the selection table could well have a big bearing on the outcome of this match with the likes of Mark Seaby, Adam Campbell and Shaun McManus a chance to line up for their WAFL clubs.

The Falcons were held goalless in three of the four quarters last week against Subiaco and will need to have their forward line firing if they are to take home the four points.

Prediction: Falcons by 13 points

PERTH v SOUTH FREMANTLE @ EFTEL OVAL

South Fremantle has been firing on all cylinders over the past fortnight and will enter this clash with Perth as favourites.

Since a surprise 30-point defeat at home to West Perth in Round 4 the Bulldogs have hit back hard with impressive wins over East Perth and Claremont.

In contrast, the Demons began the season promisingly, and were second on the ladder, before being given a reality check by Subiaco and Swan Districts.

Perth’s midfield featuring Ross Young, Troy Cook and Jarrod Kayler-Thomson have been in fine form and will be a danger to South Fremantle.

However, the Bulldogs appear to have the edge with quality across the field and should be too strong for the Demons, despite missing some key players due to injury and AFL selection.

Prediction: Bulldogs by 21 points

EAST PERTH v SWAN DISTRICTS @ MEDIBANK STADIUM

This match looms as a danger game for the high-flying Swan Districts as they tackle an East Perth side that is starting to find its best form.

Andrew Merrington produced his best performance for the Royals and although Chris Tarrant won’t be lining up in the Black and Blue this week, the Swan Districts defence, which has conceded over 100 points in each match this season, could be under the pump again.

Swan Districts has made an outstanding start to the season with only one hiccup against the league leaders, Subiaco, but now will face a different challenge as other teams begin to target them.

Recruits Andrew Krakouer, Tim Geappen, Brett Robinson and Ryan Davis have settled into the Swans line-up nicely and have been well supported by the likes of Garth Taylor and Josh Roberts.

Medibank Stadium has never been a happy hunting ground for Swan Districts but in their current form they should claim another win this week.

Prediction: Swans by 38 points
