Only two undefeated WAFL teams will clash this weekend and the match so happens to be the Grand Final replay between Subiaco and Claremont in a Friday night blockbuster at Medibank Stadium.
The Lions were at their damaging best in Round 1 against South Fremantle, notching a 40-point win, but the Tigers followed their 2007 form by just doing enough to overcome a persistent West Perth outfit.
Last year the two sides went 3-2 in five contests with the Lions winning two early season clashes and the Grand Final, while the Tigers managed wins late in the home and away year and in the Second Semi-Final.
In other matches to come in Round 2, a hot Perth side take on Peel after thrashing East Fremantle last week and two straight wins to start the season is a real possibility for the 2007 wooden spoon recipients.
The Demons won two from three matches against the Thunder last year, but looked refreshed and fit last weekend.
The first Fremantle derby of the season will be an interesting contest with both port sides outclassed in Round 1.
The Sharks held sway with two wins from three derbies last year, but Shane Woewodin’s side will be underdogs come this Saturday afternoon.
In the final game of Round 2 West Perth and East Perth will clash at Arena Joondalup.
The Royals sat back and watched in Round 1 having the bye first up and the Falcons were outgunned by the Tigers.
In 2007 the Royals had a 2-1 record over the Falcons, but all three matches were won by the away side.
