Geelong winners as Essendon bomb

Geelong has thrashed an insipid Essendon outfit by 99 points at Telstra Dome this afternoon.

Geelong led from the outset after kicking nine consecutive goals before half time to claim their second win for the season.

Again it was the Cats’ impressive midfield thatcaused the damage with Gary Ablett, Joel Corey and Bartel all unstoppable.

Both teams started the match goal for goal, before Geelong gained the ascendancy with consecutive goals to Gary Ablett, Mark Blake and Trent West to take a 19 point quarter time lead.

Geelong began the second term dominating the Bomber with five unanswered goals including one to Jimmy Bartel and Joel Corey to take 48 point lead.

Essendon finally broke their goal drought with majors Brett Stanton first and Alwyn Davey, but a goal to midfielder Cameron Ling put the Cats up by 50 points at half time.

The second half was all Geelong, as they piled on 11 goals to three to claim their 21st win out of their 22nd game.
