Subiaco have thrashed Peel Thunder by 107 points in the freezing cold at Medibank Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Peel kicked the first goal of the game but it was all Subiaco from than until the final buzzer with the scoreboard reading, Subiaco - 26.14 (170) to Peel - 9.9 (63). It was the Lions’ highest score of the 2009 season as they look to be cruising to a record fourth premiership in September.

Blake Broadhurst was the games highest goal-kicker with six goals and was well supported by Trent Dennis-Lane (five goals), as well as the leading goal-kicker in the WAFL Brad Smith who finished with three goals all in the first half. As the hovering clouds grew bigger so did Subiaco’s score as they entered the last term with an already unbeatable ten goal lead and would be excused for taken their foot off the pedal but instead went on a term high - nine goal rampage.

Peel missed the services of Hayden Ballantyne who was promoted to debut for the Dockers, as they struggled to move the ball forward and either turned the ball over or were simply out-maneuvered and out-numbered by the Lions. On the Bright side for Peel, 20-year-old Ashley Arrowsmith proved to be their only sharp-shooter in front of goals, booting three classy goals. Ben Howlett (26 touches) and Rory O’Brien (25 touches) worked hard all afternoon but lacked support. Subiaco’s big gun, Chad Fletcher, gathered 38 possessions and kicked two goals and was clearly best on ground for his team, whilst Phil Read (25 touches) and Shaun Hilderbrandt (27 touches) provided sufficient back-up in the midfield.

Subiaco (9 wins) are now one win ahead of second placed Swan Districts (8 wins) who had a bye this weekend, whilst Peel followed up their disappointing loss to East Perth last weekend with their eighth loss of the season and are struggling to stay in touch with the top four.
