Gowans out for opening three weeks

Central District star James Gowans will miss the opening three games of the 2008 SANFL season after pleading guilty to his striking charge from the grand final against North Adelaide.

In an ugly incident late in the last term, the six-time premiership player was reported for striking Roosters’ defender Shane Schubert to the head. However, a remorseful Gowans told the tribunal he was sorry for retaliating after being struck himself to the head moments before his regrettable actions.

Schubert was not called on to answer for his actions, which are claimed to have provoked Gowans’ attack.
