Warriors win Grand Final rematch

Waratahs exacted some revenge for last seasons Grand Final loss with a 32 point victory over Southern Districts. Waratah super boot Kevin Bruce kicked 3 goals for the Red & Whites. The Warriors now sit on top of the ladder with 2 wins from their 2 games. A replay of this game will be shown nationally on ABC2 at 4:00pm this Saturday.
In the early game at TIO Stadium. Wanderers & Darwin, two teams tipped to struggle this season, fought out a tight contest with the Eagles getting up by 2 goals in the last quarter but the Buffalos weren’t to be outdone & through some strong work by NT Thunder captain, Cameron Stokes they fought back to clinch a 1 point win. 90 to 89.
In the other Saturday game the Tiwi Bombers got on the board with a 54 point win over the Palmerston Magpies with 17 year old Roy Farmer, Former South Fremantle player, Edward Darcy & NTFL veteran Graham Puruntatamerri starring. Best for the Magpies was Ruckman Mark Berts & defender Pierce Liddle.
In Sundays game at Nightcliff oval, the Tigers & Magpies faced off for the “Michaels” Cup, named in honour of NT legends, Michael Long & Michael McLean. After a hard fought first half, Saints went on to win convincingly to grab second spot on the ladder. Peter McFarlane kicked 6 goals for the winners & Swan Districts player, Karl Lohde was best for the Saints. Teenage utility Michael Gugliotta performed well for Nightcliff.
Round 3 sees Darwin play St. Marys at 2:30pm, Southern Districts vs Tiwi Bombers at 5:00pm & Nightcliff vs Wanderers at 7:30pm all at TIO Stadium. On Sunday, Palmerston host Waratah at Southern Cross Oval from 4:00pm.
