Sala skips to 150

SO far this season, West Perth hasn’t been able to deliver in big milestone games, after failing to give leading goalkicker Anthony Tsalikis a win in his 100th, before again coming up short last week in game 100 for Matt Guadagnin.

This week, the Falcons will not only look to snap their poor recent form, but also their form in milestone matches when captain Jason Salecic plays his 150th game against East Fremantle in Round 12.

The 26-year-old becomes a West Perth life member when he steps out onto Shark Park on Saturday, adding another accolade to his long list of growing achievements at the club.

His durability and ability to push through the pain barrier has seen him reach the milestone in quick time, despite being dogged by constant shoulder problems all of last season.

“I played my first game of league footy just before my 18th birthday and have probably only missed 15 to 20 games over that time. I’ve played for nearly nine years now and it’s great to have been relatively injury-free,” he said.

“It’s something I will reflect more on when I finish playing footy and not so much now, but I understand that playing at this club is a massive honour and to achieve 150 games to be a life member is great.”

However, Salecic, who made his debut in 2002 admitted he’s very fortunate to have played as many games when compared to close teammate Matt Guadagnin, who also had a run of serious injuries, including a knee reconstruction.

“Looking at Guady, he’s one-year older than me and he’s just reached his 100, so I have been pretty lucky I’d say.”

Falcons coach Bill Monaghan said in the Community News that Salecic is a patriot of the club, who loves its proud history and is passionate about instilling that zest in the younger players.

Monaghan also said the club stalwart could have been playing AFL for the last three years or four years, had the system adopted the mature age rookie policy back then.
