Fleay, Hunt to sit out Falcons’ intra-club match

Dual West Perth best and fairest Dion Fleay and key defender Dan Hunt will both watch from the sidelines as the Falcons prepare for the coming season with their first intra-club game of the year at Arena Joondalup on Friday night.

Falcon’s football manager Ryan Lasscock told Footygoss on Wednesday that both players were on track in their preparations for the season ahead, but the club would wait until next week to play them in a practice match.

Lasscock added that the Falcons were excited about playing in the match after a long preseason.

“We’re moving into the match phase of the preseason and building up for Round 1 so we’re looking forward to actually playing a game,” Lasscock said.

Returning forward Brent LeCras, former East Perth player Clayton Radcliffe and ex-Wodonga player Mark Doolan will all play in Friday’s practice match, but the Falcons are still about a month away from choosing a new captain after Clayton Lasscock relinquished the role.

Ryan Lasscock added that the club would play several games in the preseason competition before naming a leader for 2008.

“We did a fair bit of stuff on the camp and we’ll continue to evaluate it (the leadership) through the full preseason,” he said.

“We’ll look at the first few games of the preseason competition before we make a decision.”

Friday’s match starts at 6pm at Arena Joondalup with a second intra-club game scheduled for 9am on Saturday, February 23.
