Fremantle rookie Brent Connelly made a sensational WAFL debut for his allocated club West Perth at Medibank Stadium on Saturday night bagging five goals in the Falcons’ 80-point annihilation of East Perth in the opening round of the preseason series.
Connelly, from the Gippsland Under 18s in Victoria and returning Falcon Brent LeCras (four goals) had 13 shots at goal between them in the one-sided contest, giving Falcons’ and Dockers’ supporters something to smile at early in the year.
The Falcons extended their lead at every change against a young Royals outfit winning 19.10 (124) to 6.8 (44), setting up a semi-final preseason clash with Swan Districts at the same venue next Saturday evening.
New recruit Mark Doolan was impressive for the Falcons with two majors, while Callum Chambers and Joel Rice worked hard around the ground.
Peter Agostino was the only multiple goal-scorer for the Royals with two second-half goals, while Andrew Merrington and Jonathan Eastwell were among their better players.
Ex-Essendon and Geelong utility Joel Reynolds did not have an impact for the Royals.
