A Darling footballer

In his debut game for West Perth last Saturday, teenage rising star Jack Darling certainly made his mark against Peel Thunder at Corrigin Oval.

The 17-year-old gathered 14 disposals, four marks, five inside 50s and kicked one goal, in the Falcons 41-point win.

The Hillarys teenager was also a part of the WA squad, which went undefeated in the 2009 NAB AFL under 18s championships.

Darling was one of nine WA players to be named in the All-Australian team, at half-forward after a stellar carnival, kicking 14 goals, and ranking number one in his team for tackles (26) and score assists (15).

“Next year I’ll be concentrating on getting ready to have a good 18s carnival, hopefully a good season of league football with West Perth and just preparing my body for AFL if that comes,” he said.

At 190cm, Darling’s speed and strength overhead are drawing comparisons to the Brisbane Lions’ triple Premiership forward Jonathan Brown.

Darling graduates from Sacred Heart College this year, but interestingly his teammate Clayton Lasscock is one of his teachers.
