2008 Preseason snapshot: West Perth

2007 Finish: Fifth

Top recruit: Brent LeCras (Port Adelaide Magpies/WP)

Biggest loss: Anthony Tsalikis

First preseason match: versus East Perth, Saturday March 1, Medibank Stadium 7.45pm

First home and away match: versus Claremont, Saturday March 22, Claremont Oval 2.15pm

After making the finals in 2006, West Perth finished a game outside the top four in 2007 and would be disappointed with several fadeouts in matches they controlled.

In fact, none of the three Falcons’ sides made the top four in league, reserves or colts last year, which would surely drive the team to improve in 2008.

Brent LeCras returns from the SANFL this year and will be a handy replacement for Anthony Tsalikis who has elected to pursue travel, while ex-Wodonga player Mark Doolan is expected to give the Falcons an extra dimension in the middle of the ground.

Bragging rights will be on offer early in the year with a clash against East Perth in the preseason series, while their first three matches in the home and away season will be against three of last year’s finalists – Claremont (away), East Perth (home) and South Fremantle (away).

The Falcons will also need to find a new captain in 2008 after Clayton Lasscock relinquished the role.
