The West Coast Eagles would be shattered if captain Darren Glass is forced to rest for another round, as uncertainty lingers about just how bad his nagging abdominal injury is.

Glass was benched during Sunday’s 35-point loss to St Kilda and Eagles’ coach John Worsfold said the immediate playing future of the skipper was still unclear.

The Eagles said on its website this week that the dual club champion has been incapacitated in recent weeks, but has bravely played through the issue.

“However, in consultation with the club’s medical staff he has been rested for this match (against St Kilda) and the injury will be closely monitored in coming days,” the club said.

Worsfold said today told AAP the club still did not know if the 29-year-old will cope with training this week.

“That will probably be mid-week before we make a call on that,” he was quoted as saying.

Without Glass, the Eagles faded in the second half relinquishing a 17-point early in the third quarter.

The Saints, with six unanswered goals, ran out 35-point winners at Subiaco Oval, winning 13.13 (91) to 8.8 (56).

It was the Saints’ first win in three games.

Worsfold would not speculate on how long Glass was expected to be sidelined, but did say West Coast’s defence performed solidly despite the absence of the skipper.

Stephen Milne, with three goals under his belt, was the only Saints forward to have a major impact on the game.

West Coast has only two wins so far this season. They take on Carlton at Etihad Stadium this Sunday.
