Eagles arrogance has clipped its wings

Mr Dandalooa
What comes to mind when you think of the West Coast Eagles?
For me: Arrogance. Aloofness. Audacity. Pomposity. Pretentiousness. Pride. Priggishness.
Definitely not: Humility. Meekness. Servility.
After repeated attempts by FootyGoss to interview the Eagles to get an insight to future plans on and off the field and to clear up all the negative publicity coach John Worsfold and the club has endured this season, it’s no wonder the club is no longer the golden child of football on the West Coast.
Eagles spin doctor and information gatekeeper Anna Carew-Reid finally came back after a weekend of deliberation regarding a request to do a “positive†story.
It goes like this.
FootGoss: “Hi Anna. With all the media beat up of the Eagles lately, I thought I would take a different approach and write a feature on the achievements of the club and what it plans for the future.â€
“If I send some questions through would the club be interested in the story?â€
First response from Anna: “Thanks. We’ve been questioned about revealing our “future plans†a fair bit recently and the response has been that we aren’t in a position to publicise them, so I’d imagine that would be the case in this instance as well.â€
Then after the weekend a blunt answer: “I’ve run the request past the boss and unfortunately no one will be available.â€
It goes to show how this club has come from heightened heroes to aloof arrogance.
And when the besieged Woosha told doubting Eagles fans to go and support another club if they don’t believe a bright future lies ahead, that I believe should sound the death knell for his career and this wooden spoon of a club.
It’s not like they are preparing for finals footy that they are too busy to talk to FootyGoss.
I guess it’s lonely at the bottom.
The Eagles have won a mere four games this season and are almost certain to end up with their worst result on record.
Woosha’s evasiveness in press conferences, combined with his disdain of Eagles doubters, shows that this club thinks it’s too good for not only the press, but it’s own fans who have stuck by them all these years.
But Worsfold remains adamant that in a few short years there will be future success at the club.
“The people who want to sit and say ‘well it’s all miserable now’ well that’s fine,” Worsfold said on Perth radio recently.
“Jump off, go and find another team to support and miss out on the great times this club will have going forward.
“This club has a great record and will come through, I’m telling you.
“We’ll be a very strong club again in the near future. We won’t stay down for too long.
“There’s no doubt I can take the club where it’s going to go because that’s a matter of having the ability to build a group and I’ve got absolutely no doubt I can do that.â€
I reckon a coach and a club that is too busy on the bottom of the ladder to talk about these plans and this so-called ability should be rubbished in the media.
Why should we believe him?
