Mr Dandalooa
Former Carlton premiership coach David Parkin will step onto Western Australian footy soil next month to head up an AFL level 2 coaching course.
Parkin, also a former Hawthorn coach, will visit WA with Geelong skills acquisition coach David Wheadon.
Registrations are open for the course, which will be held at Murdoch University on March 13 and 14.
Parkin and Wheadon will be keynote speakers along with WAFL coaches and WA State Academy Coaches Rob Wiley, Craig Starcevich and Brad Wira.
Parkin, a four-time premiership coach, was a tough back-pocket player who played 211 games for the Hawthorn Football Club (and kicked 21 goals) in a career spanning from 1961-1974.
He was awarded the best and fairest for the Hawks in 1965, and was skipper of the club from 1969-1973.
The innovative coach, who also coached Fitzroy from 1986-1988 with little success, represented Victoria 5 times at interstate football, and also played in Hawthorn’s 1971 premiership.
Wheadon returned to Skilled Stadium in 2007 for a second tour of duty with the Cats, taking up the role of skill acquisition coach.
He had previously served as Geelong’s reserves, assistant and skills coach between 1985-90.
Over his AFL coaching career he has worked with 9 senior coaches, including Tom Hafey, John Devine, Malcolm Blight, David Parkin, Kevin Sheedy, Tony Shaw, Danny Frawley, Terry Wallace and Mark Thompson. In that time the teams he has been with have compiled a 294-274-4 record over 572 matches.
Wheadon has been a member of three AFL premiership campaigns, working with the 2007 and 2009 Cats and the 1993 ‘baby Bombers’ as assistant coach.
Heis one of footballs most innovative thinkers, and has filled a number of roles through his career including assistant coach, forward line coach, defensive coach, goal kicking coach, opposition analyst, skills coach, ruck coach, reserves coach and football manager.
The WAFC coaching program will include practical sessions and formal presentations from other experts in their fields.
