AFL boss Andrew Demetriou has stated that Sydney Coach Paul Roos will not be fined after making a comment regarding Essedon's treatment by the umpires.

During an interview Roos was asked whether he thought the $20 000 fine handed down to James Hird after his outburst about umpire Scott McLaren was money well spent and Roos replied that it was.

Demetriou said that Roos has explained the situation and that he would not be fined for the comment.

The question to Roos arose amongst discussion that Essendon's free kick count, especially in their forward fifty metres, has increased significantly since Hird's public comments.

AFL Operations Manager Adrian Anderson rejected the claims and states that Essendon's recent success has been due to improved form.
