The Swans look set to drop rookie ruckman Mike Pyke from the side to take on West Coast at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.
Coach Paul Roos said he was pleased with Pyke’s progress in his first two games against Richmond and Geelong. But said he was concerned that a match-up with Dean Cox would prove unflattering for Pyke.
Although Pyke has performed well against Tigers Adam Pattison and Angus Graham, and Cats duo Mark Blake and Shane Mumford, Roos believes Cox is on another level.
Stopping the West Coast four-time All-Australian will be a key task for the Swans and Pyke’s likely omission leaves a vacancy for Jesse White to form a ruck-duo with Darren Jolly.
