Swans points probe

THE WA Football Comission is not expected to take action following its investigation of the Swan Districts Football Club over an alleged breach of the WAFL’s player points cap.

Under the points system, every player in the league is rated according to their experience, and where they were recruited from.

For example, Andrew Krakouer would be worth 12-points, due to his previous experience at AFL/WAFL level, whereas Steve Potente (1-point) because he was developed in WA and is only in his second year.

Each club is allocated 130 points to be spread across a senior squad of 55 players.

Based on this information, it is believed a club complained to the WAFL after it had determined that Swan Districts’ cap was 131 points during the season opener in March.

The WAFC investigated the matter and imposed no sanction because it believed the league should have picked up the breach before the start of the season.

The decision has angered other clubs, including Perth, which was fined $25,000 last year for a breach in its salary cap reporting to the WAFL.
