Hunter turns eagle eye to coaching

AFTER spending some time contemplating life after football, West Coast premiership forward Adam Hunter has returned to the game, this time in a coaching role at Swan Districts.
The 28-year-old will lend his services to the club he started his career with and will join head coach Brian Dawson in the box as an assistant in charge of the forward line.
Hunter is now set to lead the likes of forward trio Ashley Hansen, Tony Notte and Tim Geappen and is relishing the opportunity to coach his former teammates.
“To see some of the guys that I obviously played with last year is a great experience to now try and help them achieve some success,†he said.
“It is totally different. It is a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions up there, but it has taught me a lot about the game so far and I’m sure there is plenty more to learn.â€
Chronic shoulder problems forced Hunter’s early exit from AFL last year after 151 games, however his desire to still be involved in football was still there.
“I had thought about it, but didn’t really think it was going to be my cup of tea. I guess I had some time to think about what I wanted to do with my life after football, and I just love footy and want to be involved again.
It was music to the ears of Swans’ coach Brian Dawson, who said he was rapt to have Hunter’s experience as an AFL premiership player on board as his side pushes for a top two finish.
“He was keen to be involved again certainly. We tried to get him probably at the start of the year, but he was unsure about what he wanted to do at that stage but it has turned out his interest is there and he has the time to do it,” Dawson said.
