WAFL Winners & Losers - Round 10

BIG WINNERS - SUBIACO
For the first time this season the Lions were faced with some sort of a challenge against a South Fremantle team that appeared undermanned on paper but played with guts and determination.
After being behind at quarter time, a position they hadn’t found themselves in over the first nine rounds, Subiaco kicked into gear and controlled the contest for virtually the rest of the match.
The win sees the Lions three games clear of their nearest rival and four matches ahead of the Bulldogs, who are expected to be their major challenger come the business end of the season.
BIG LOSERS - CLAREMONT
The Tigers were blown away in the second half by West Perth and in the process saw their finals hopes drift away on the strong Joondalup breeze.
Three games adrift of the top four, and with ‘mission impossible’ against Subiaco next Monday, it is difficult to see how last year’s Minor Premiers can make the top four by the end of the season.
It is likely that the Tigers will need to win nine of their remaining 11 matches to qualify for September action, a task that is surely beyond a team that has won only two of its first nine games.
PLAYER OF THE ROUND - BRENT LECRAS (WP)
The former Kangaroo cruised around the forward half for the Falcons, marked almost everything within his reach and finished off perfectly in front of goals, kicking a bag of eight.
Just as impressive was the pressure that LeCras applied on his Claremont opponents, applying a number of strong tackles to keep the ball in the West Perth forward line.
Working in tandem with Adam Campbell and Mark Seaby, LeCras is the focal point of what is one of the most dangerous attacks in the WAFL competition.
KEEP YOUR EYE ON...SEAMUS YOUNG (P)
While plenty of focus has been on Carlton recruit Ross Young, his brother Seamus has made an impressive start to his career with the Demons.
Having followed his brother across to Perth, Seamus is beginning to cement a place in the forward line for the Demons and he caused many headaches for the East Fremantle defence on Saturday, finishing with four goals in a best on ground performance.
It looks like there are now two Youngs for opposition coaches to keep an eye on when they take on Perth.
