Quarter by Quarter - Lions Streets Ahead

There is little doubt that Subiaco has been the dominant force in the WAFL over the first eight rounds of the season.

The Lions are undefeated, have clearly the best attack in the league and have conceded 125 points less than the next best defence despite having played an extra match on every team.

But perhaps the most daunting statistic is that Subiaco has lost only 5 quarters in their first eight games.

The Lions have won 26 quarters, including eight from eight in the opening terms of their matches, and have drawn one.

The next best team in terms of quarters won is Perth who has won 16 of its 28 quarters played.

Swan Districts, South Fremantle and Claremont have won half of their quarters, recording 14 quarter wins.

Tigers fans would find this a frustrating statistic given that their team sits in seventh place on the ladder with only two wins from seven games.

Not surprisingly it is East Fremantle with the worst quarter by quarter record.

The Sharks, who claimed their first victory of the season on Saturday, have won just eight out of 28 periods so far.

A league table based on quarters won appears below. Subiaco has played eight matches, while all other teams have played just seven.

1. Subiaco 26 (1 drawn)
2. Perth 16 (2)
3. South Frem. 14 (1)
4. Claremont 14 (1)
5. Swan Dists. 14 (0)
6. West Perth 11 (2)
7. East Perth 11 (1)
8. Peel Thunder 9 (1)
9. East Frem. 8 (1)
