WITH Subiaco’s senior squad for 2010 just about finalised, coach Chris Waterman said he was pleased with the number of young regional footballers that had made the list.

Many of these up and coming prospects have travelled to Perth from the Goldfields Esperance Region to showcase their talents, in the hope they would be picked up by Subiaco.

The same can be said in the Colts division, with a further six regional players battling it out with their metro counterparts for a spot.

“We are very pleased that about a quarter of the (league) squad has come from our country zones,” said Waterman

“We are very conscious of giving players from the country areas every opportunity to play at WAFL level and go beyond that to the AFL if they are good enough.”

Goldfields Football Development Manager Darren Resuggan said Subiaco had provided amazing opportunities for regional footballers to develop their skills.

“It is obviously a massive step up from local footy but with a clear and defined pathway now in place the opportunities have never been greater,” he said.

“I would like to think that this is just the tip of the ice berg and that we will continue to build on this association that the people in the Goldfields Esperance region have with the Subiaco Football Club.”
