Injury concerns for WA

The Western Australian squad to take on Queenland in Townsville on Saturday has been trimmed to 27 with doubts remaining over ruckman Luke Newick who suffered a corked thigh in Subiaco’s victory over Claremont on Monday.

Peel big man Zac Beeck has been added to the squad as cover with Newick facing a race against time to prove his fitness.

Perth utility Ash Thornton is also an unlikely starter after leaving the ground with a hamstring strain on Saturday against Peel Thunder.

The weekend’s bye came at the perfect time for tough Swan Districts midfielder Brett Robinson who injured a shoulder the previous week but now should be available for the Sandgropers.

After being added to the squad just a week ago Daniel Chick has been forced out with an ankle problem which surfaced on Monday.

In good news for WA, a striking charge against Troy Cook was dismissed at the tribunal and he will be a key member of the midfield on Saturday.
