Great Day for Subiaco Spoilt by Very Ugly Incident
Posted Apr 19, 2009 - 21:47 PM
Subiaco managed to win all three Grades with the Colts winning for the first time for Rookie coach Jarrad Schofield. The injury ridden League side pulled of a top Round 5 win against a very good Peel side. It was great lying in the sun watching Ali Pickett cast his magic on his old home ground. The other ex Peel boy Shaun Hildebrandt with his gorgeous young cub watching also played another top game.
But the day was marred by a horrific injury in the Reserves to young 18 year old Cody Enders from Kingsley. As I write I pray that he is okay after being taken from Rushton Park in an ambulance. It is alleged that Enders received an elbow to the head behind the play. Hopefully the video will show what happenned and the infringing player will get his just deserts at the tribunal. Myself I’d prefer Jungle Justice if you get my drift. A great day spoilt by an alleged careless, reckless and shall I say crude cheap shot. Allegedly!!!
The Subiaco Reserves which were a very young, inexperienced bunch rallied on to win by a lazy ten goals. With the oldest player being 22 the Subiaco Reserves unearthed home great young talent. Cody Enders himself who made his League debut earlier this year shows heaps of potential. Get well soon young fella. Number 33 Daniel Hookway only 19 years of age showed some of his undoubted talent in his first game back from injury. Hookway had the crowds in awe during the Pre Season matches with his great run and dash from Half Back together with with magical high flying marks. Mark him down in your books I’m sure he will be King of the Jungle one day. Clint the fearless Bradshaw number 45 also knows how to kick a goal. He takes a strong grab and goes in fearlessly for the ball. Nathan Stewart mysteriosly let slip by Claremont is another of the young cubs to impess. Kalgoorlie product Gavin Armstrong continues to impress taking strong marks and giving great drive from the half back. Runners Julian Jacobs with two League games under his belt in 2009 and Rhett Kerr both by the way from Esperance round of some this remarkable talent in the Subiaco Reserves.
Rookie coach Paul Vines is doing a great job with the young boys and all augers well for the future of the mighty Subiaco Football Club. I must also make note of the Old Boy of the Reserves- Michael Genovese- he turns 22 in 09, who is also playing top football and would be playing regular League Football in an inferior side- other than the mighty Lions. Well done boys and sorry for those I missed.
Alex the Lion signing off and dedicating this article to young Cody - we hope and pray he’s okay and back playing soon.
