The Saints have signed a star Irish Gaelic footballer for two years as an international rookie to further increase their premiership chances in the next couple of years.
Tommy Welsh, is a 2009 All-Ireland champion and won the 2008 GAA Young Player of the Year award.
St Kilda’s football manager Matthew Drain explained that the 21-year-old would need to work hard to pick up Australian Rules but was certain the Irishman’s natural football talent would help him become a force in the game.
Drain added that Walsh is one of the most successful players to arrive from Ireland and that the Saints saw him as first-round draft pick due to his size, skills and credentials.
Walsh was a dominant forward in Ireland with his county side Kerry and is regarded as one of the best talents in the game. He stands at 195cm and weighs 95 kilograms.
