Former St Kilda back-man Max Hudghton has signed up as a part-time defensive coach with the Magpies.
The 33-year-old retired after the 2009 season after massing up 234 games over 13 season for the Saints. The Magpies added him to their coaching staff after the departures of Brad Scott to North Melbourne and Blake Caracella to Geelong.
Hudgton takes over from Mark Neeld, who will join the midfield group in 2010. Former star Nathan Buckley will begin his coaching career with the forwards, while Paul Hudson will focus on the opposition.
Magpie coach Mick Malthouse said he was looking forward to the work Hudgton will do with his young defenders. He said that Max has played on all the best forwards in the competition during his career and will bring a heap of knowledge and experience with him.
