The Demons stand a chance of using a first-round draft pick to snare St Kilda’s Luke Ball in the national draft, highlighting the value the Demons put on the former captain.
According to coach Dean Bailey, the Demons are more likely to take their chances on Ball being available later in the draft but are still willing to use either pick 18 or 11 to secure his services.
Should Ball choose to miss out the national draft on November 26, the Demons would be guaranteed to take him at No.1 in the pre-season draft a fortnight later.
Melbourne , who begun their pre-season training on Monday are apparently open to the idea of welcoming Ball to their pre-season training before the draft. Ball is currently holidaying in New York.
