DESPITE losing their first pre-season game last Saturday night, South Fremantle is placing plenty of faith in its younger players as they continue to adapt to the rigours of league level football.
Football manager Jason Burton said the 25-point loss to East Fremantle served as a valuable learning tool for some of the clubs young up and coming players.
“Six of our 22 players from that game have yet to play league football.
“Four of them (were) from last year’s colt’s team, and another three with less than 10 games experience,†he said.
“No doubt they will be better for the experience and seeing first-hand the pace and intensity of league football. They will be looking to increase in confidence with more exposure at this level.â€
Jarrad Winter, who played just nine games in two seasons for the Bulldogs will, along with Mitch Cornell make their returns to senior football after spending some time away from the WAFL.
Cornell played 27 games over four seasons, booting 13 goals in five games during his last season in 2006.
There were also a number of senior players who didn’t play against the Sharks last Saturday night that will return in the coming weeks.
Kris Miller, Gerard Wilkie, and Kyle Hams, Sam Hunt, Josh Head, Sam Fielding, Reece Adams, Andrew McCarrey, and Craig White are expected to play in the coming games against Perth and Subiaco.
South Fremantle kicks off its 2010 premiership defence with a round one clash against East Perth on Friday March, 19.
