With only five rounds remaining until the 2009 finals series kicks off, South Fremantle have moved a game clear on top of the ladder. On Friday night Subiaco hosted South Fremantle at Medibank Stadium, one of only two WAFL matches for the weekend. This saw South Fremantle take the honours with a 19 point win over the Lions and gave them some breathing space on top of the ladder. In a hard fought match, the Dogs were trailing by two goals at quarter time but a five goal to one; second quarter put the dogs in front at the main break. With Subiaco fighting back, South Fremantle took a one goal lead into the final term but it was Dogs who ran out the game stronger to win 14.13.(97) to the Lions 11.12.(78).
West Coast rookie listed Wilson lead the way for South Fremantle with 5-goals while Dennis-Lane kicked 4 for Subiaco.
