McGrath to lead as Cook left out

South Fremantle skipper Toby McGrath has been named to lead the WA team into battle against Queenland in Townsville on Saturday.
The home team will be captained by a player well known to Western Australians, triple-premiership Brisbane Lions star Darryl White.
In somewhat of a surprise Perth veteran midfielder Troy Cook has been omitted from the final 24-man squad that will travel.
McGrath, who shared the 2005 Sandover Medal with Claremont’s Jaxon Crabb, was announced as captain as the state selectors made their final cuts to the training squad.
Missing the cut were Cook, Perth team mates Aaron Zucconi and Ash Thornton as well as Leith Teakle from East Fremantle.
Many experts expected Zucconi to make the final team, while Thornton suffered a hamstring strain last weekend when the Demons beat Peel Thunder.
Ruckman Luke Newick will travel with the team after passing a fitness test on his corked thigh last night.
Peel big man Zac Beeck is part of the squad as cover for Newick, but may line-up alongside him in the final 23-man team that will take the field.
The state match can be heard on 990am on Saturday from 12noon, with bouncedown at 12:30pm.
