Brendon Gale is the new CEO of the Richmond football club, meaning he has replaced Steven Wright who chose to leave because of on-going health problems. Gale is also the AFL Players Association chief executive.
The decision to appoint Gale as the new CEO was confirmed by Richmond president Gary March at an 11am press conference at Punt Road Oval on Monday morning.
Gale was happy with his new role and said that Wright along with March had handed him a strong platform to build on. Wright who has been battling Guillain-Barre Syndrome, will still have a role to play at the club as a consultant on the $20 million redevelopment of Punt Road Oval, which begins in a fortnights time.
March said that Wright was a major reason the Tigers had managed to record membership and sponsorship levels to go with the fact that they had managed to make a profit every year while he was directing the club.
Gale will be thrown into the deep end immediately by having to decide who will be the new coach for the Tigers, who were involved in some major mid-season politics when previous coach Terry Wallace resigned which resulted in Jade Rawlings taking over the position as a caretaker.
Gale is set to become an attractive option for players wanting to be recruited to Tiger-land, as he carries with him a healthy reputation for prioritizing player welfare since he began his role as head of the players organization in 2005.
Most AFL players now earn atleast $200,000 per year since 2005 which is a huge increase prior to Gale’s influence.
