Talking to Melbourne

Anderson said that the AFL had written to the clubs pointing out the statistics and costs involved in implementing an extra two goal umpires and was looking forward to hearing from the experts at the clubs and their opinions on the situation.

The AFL is also interested in looking at technological advances to aid in the accuracy of scoring decisions.

Anderson believes that incorporating another boundary umpire would mean that there would be two umpires on each side at both ends of the ground.

This would ensure that there would be an umpire on the scene every time a ball goes out of bounds.

The goal umpires are assessed every game by umpire officials. In 2003 there were 10 assessed errors made with 7 in 2002 and 2001.
