Port Adelaide is nervously waiting for the opportunity to snare 197cm key forward John Butcher, to replace their star premiership skipper Warren Tredrea at Thursday’s AFL national draft.
The Power will have selections eight, nine and 16 and are a good chance of snaring Butcher’s services after he dropped down Thursday’s list due to injuries after once being touted as a No.1 pick.
He is expected to be picked up by Port with pick eight.
Unfortunately for Port however, North Melbourne and Sydney are also showing interest in the Victorian and could spoil the Powers tactics.
The 18-year-old is the best key forward in the draft and would be an ideal replacement for Tredrea, who secured his fourth club champion award this year, but is expected to retire after the 2010 season at the age of 31.
