BIG WINNERS: PEEL THUNDER
After back-to-back defeats by three figure margins the heat was on the Thunder but they answered the critics with a dominant performance over East Perth at Rushton Park on Saturday. The Thunder were on top from start to finish and, apart from a ten minute burst at the start of the final term, never let the Royals into the match, and in the process closed the gap between them and the top four to just two points.

BIG LOSERS: CLAREMONT
The spotlight now shifts to last year’s Minor Premiers and beaten Grand Finalists. The Tigers trip to Geraldton to take on the improving East Fremantle loomed as a danger match and proved to be just that as the Sharks held off Claremont to win by 21 points. Rodger Kerr’s team is now seventh, two and a half games from the top four, and face a must win clash away to West Perth next week before tough games against Subiaco and Swan Districts.

PLAYER OF THE ROUND: ROSS YOUNG (P)
Recruited from Carlton, Ross Young has been a consistent performer in the midfield for the Demons and collected another 34 possessions as his side drew with West Perth on Saturday. Young covers plenty of ground and uses the ball the class and has been one of the major reasons behind Perth’s rise up the ladder in the opening two months of the 2008 season.

KEEP YOUR EYE ON…JAMES VENTURINI (EF)
The East Fremantle rookie didn’t feature on the Sharks’ list in the Football Budget but made himself known very quickly with three crucial goals in an impressive debut. He was given his opportunity on the back of some solid performances in the Reserves and repaid his coach’s faith with a late goal that sent the Sharks on their way to victory.
