Perth set sights on Sumich

THE Perth Football Club has already started scouting for a new coach to replace the outgoing Andrew Jarman, and has singled out West Coast assistant Peter Sumich as a potential successor.
Although the club will scour the country for a new coach for 2011, it is understood the Demons are eager to lure Sumich back to the WAFL.
The Eagles two time premiership forward knows plenty about kicking goals, and could play a huge part in taking the Demons out of the doldrums and into a genuine top four side.
Sumich, a seven-time leading goalkicker coached South Fremantle for two seasons, taking them to the 2001 WAFL grand final, before returning to West Coast where he helped produce the club’s third premiership in 2006.
Demons president Damian Matthews was buoyed by the club’s prospects and confident that they would attract plenty of interest for the vacancy.
“The hunt for our new coach has already begun,” he said.
“There is strong interest but we will also advertise to make sure we assemble the strongest possible field.
“There is a great story just waiting to be written down here at the club - we are financial, we have great facilities and a very solid squad.â€
Jarman will see out the remaining four games of the season, with the game against Peel next week looming as the wooden spoon play-off.
But the Demons have been competitive in recent matches with Jarman using nine teenagers in the past month, including exciting youngsters Aaron Elari, Tendai Mzungu, Bernard Sneeuwjagt, and more recently Reece Conca, Haydn Busher and Liam Smith.
“There is plenty of talent in this group and with a couple of key recruits and the further development of some of the kids, they are not far away from climbing right up the ladder,” Jarman said.
