THE Perth Football Club has given no excuses for its poor start to the season, with Demons CEO Brian Leys promising fans they will avenge their disappointing start to their 2010 campaign.
Perth was expected to win both of its opening games against East Fremantle and Peel, but a narrow loss to the Sharks, followed by a weak performance against last year’s wooden-spooners has the finals hopefuls sitting in 7th place.
“I understand how everyone must be feeling with our poor start to the season, from a club point of view we do have high expectations of our team this season,†Leys said in the club’s newsletter.
“We are all in this together and I can assure you we will work harder as a club in the coming weeks to avenge this disappointing start.
“Stick with us and we will improve,†he said.
Leys also said he had faith in the club’s player list, but accepted the Demons were a fair way off from where they needed to be.
“As the new CEO it is probably easy for me to say, ‘be patient with our list’ as we do believe we are on the right track with our development of local talent, and I know you have been patient for a long time.
“We do have a lot of work to do and there is no point trying to hide from that face. It is now up to us as a club to keep moving forward and make no excuses about where we are at,†Leys said.
The Demons will pay tribute to Ken Armstrong in their round 3 clash against Subiaco, and will need no further motivation to produce their first win of the season.
“Hopefully the performances of the past two weeks will really put a rocket up the players…†“I’m not saying they have been put on notice, I think they’ll put themselves on notice because they know they can play better football from now on,†Leys said.
