G and D does Demons a world Good

“A week is a long time in footyâ€â€¦just ask everyone at Perth.
Andrew Jarman’s Demons had suffered a hell of a week, in the press for al the wrong reasons. Bottom of the ladder, an inquisition into past player payments, and unhappiness from the Eagles over the amount of game time one of ‘their’ players was receiving. All week Jarman had talked about the need to dig in while the club had it’s back to the wall, and his message appeared to get through. Everyone in a Demon jumper was armed with a shovel and a set of steel caps, and everyone played their part.
The Demon’s took on West Perth, the Falcons in fourth position, away, in a game that may shape the coaches reign at the club. Jarman is not a 9 to 5 accountant, and his address to the players was administered while his captain tossed the coin, the coach wanting to have every last moment he could with his playing group…it worked.
Captain Troy Cook lead the dig, the Demon’s kicked 5 goals in the opening term to alert their fans and the opposition to the fact that they were here to play. 2 goals to Kane Ranstead and singles to Ross Young, Mathew Ferguson and a major on the run from ruckman Will Sullivan gave the visitors a 15 point break.
The second qtr was initially dominated again by the cellar dwellers before the home side kicked a couple of late goals in a hurry thanks to Troy Longmuir’s chain being loosened for half a step, and the margin was back to 3 points, the momentum with the Falcons, and the coaching staff rightfully disappointed to have coughed up the advantage.
Luke Tedesco was everywhere for the Falcon’s in the first half, using the ball with precision, and using it often. His brother Matt didn’t miss the opportunity to get on the end of a few family passages of play either.
While Luke’s form rolled into the 2nd half, Ross Young, Brendan Jones and Ash Thornton continued their impressive form. Thornton blanketed Brent LeCras in the first half, prompting a move from coach Bill Monaghan to send the swingman to defence. Kayler-Thomson was another one to leave the ground having had an impact, the penetrating left footer finishing with 3 classy goals, one of which, kicked in the last term, will feature highly in the training track banter during the week.
The 16 point advantage at the final change of ends was enough, the Demon’s extending the lead to 36 points during an enjoyable final stanza for the Perth faithful, and they are faithful.
Funny game footy, last week the Demon’s were on the bottom of the ladder, this week, they begin their preparation knowing they are just two games out of the eight, and a chance to perhaps leap frog one of the other contenders…maybe they could do with another week of controversy.
