Williams reviews another heavy loss

NOT even Peel coach Trevor Williams could account for the dramatic turnaround that saw his side capitulate last week against a rampant East Perth outfit at Bendigo Bank Stadium.

Williams said he was rapt with his team’s performance early on, which saw them jump out to a four goal advantage.

“There was a time on Sunday against East Perth at quarter time when I thought that moment had arrived,” he said.

“Our first quarter of football was as good as we can and have played all year, with all the players up and seriously taking the game up to East Perth.

“To lead (at quarter time) was the result of some quality team football and strong defensive pressure on the opposition.

All his big key players were firing in the first, with Rory O’Brien (12 touches), Brodie Filo (two goals), John Bennell (eight touches) and Clayton Collard on song early.

However, after that, Williams said what he witnessed was “an all too familiar fade out” as Peel conceded 28 goals after quarter time, resigning the club to its 10th straight loss.

“Clearly the current player list is not up to the task of competing week in and week out at this level.”

That player list was without midfielder Robert Beswick, utility Rhett Mason and defender Blayne Wilson, who were all relegated to the reserves for disciplinary reasons.

“Not to be deterred or distracted from our vision,” Williams said.

“We will continue to educate and develop our young list, while strategically recruiting key players to help support our vision – One club, One culture and Finals in 2012.”
