WORK on Peel Thunder’s $9 million state-of-the-art sports stadium at Rushton Park commenced on Wednesday, as demolition began on the club’s outdated facilities.
It is expected to take three to four weeks just for the old stadium to be bulldozed to make way for construction of the new Bendigo Bank Stadium.
Peel Thunder CEO Russell Clark said the new stadium would be “the best in the WAFLâ€.
“The facility is going to have 300 seats and will be able to be expanded in the next 15-20 years if needed,†he said.
The venues redevelopment will take 14-15 months, and will include a member’s bar, public bar, public gym and new clubrooms.
Peel Marketing Manager Paula Barnden said:
“It is imperative that our members support the club through this transition period as we rely heavily on attendance and catering revenue.
“We are working hard to provide the best facilities going around that will surely be the envy of every club.â€
Peel will use the netball centre (Rushton East) on game days, where the main bar and canteen will now be located.
Extra seating and toilet blocks have been provided for spectators, while ‘The Past Players’ group have increased the size of their area and will offer bar facilities and catering.
