LIONS at home and lambs away is how Peel Thunder coach Trevor Williams described his team’s form this season, following a huge second half fade out against Swan Districts in Round 9.
Williams said despite keeping within striking distance of the in-form Swans, they were “thrashed in all key facets of the game†after half-time , conceding 16 goals to two, as they were handed their third 100-points plus defeat this season.
“It is very frustrating and hard to fathom how we can play with such intensity and urgency against teams when at Bendigo Bank Stadium, but when we cross that ‘Great Divide’ we lose that willingness to compete for four quarters,†he said.
Peel’s only two wins have come at home, but it’s already an improvement on last year, where they managed just a solitary win from nine home matches, however Williams is just as eager to rectify their away game woes.
“But members, supporters and sponsors can be assured we don’t take such performances for granted and we’ll continue to work through the playing list to find players who will stand up to a challenge.â€
Players identified to meet that challenge, include midfielders Brendon Jones, Jordan Jones, Matt Giumelli and defender Brad Triplett, who according to Williams were the better players that consistently contributed for four quarters.
As co-captain Brendon Jones has been Peel’s barometer in 2010, averaging 22 touches, while West Coast listed player Jordan Jones hasn’t been far off, with 18 per game.
