2008 Preseason snapshot: Peel Thunder

2007 Finish: Eighth
Top recruits: Simon Rosa (Bendigo VFL), Zac Beeck (East Perth)
Biggest loss: Rory O’Brien
First preseason match: versus Perth, Friday February 29, Fremantle Oval 7.45pm
First home and away match: versus Swan Districts, Saturday March 22, Rushton Park 2.15pm
Peel will look to start their preseason campaign with a confidence-boosting win over fellow strugglers Perth in just over a week’s time when the two sides meet at Fremantle Oval.
The Thunder were impressive in last year’s preseason practice games, knocking off Subiaco in one match, but recorded just five wins from 20 games in the 2007 home and away season.
Although Peel did finish above the Demons last year, they were the competition’s worst rated defensive and attacking team in 2007 and only considerable improvements in all areas of the game will see the Thunder push for a better result this year.
Simon Rosa’s addition to the squad should not be overlooked. The brother of West Coast’s Matt has captained VFL side the Bendigo Bombers and represented the VFL at State level.
