A familiar Fremantle face in Cameron Schawb has been appointed the new CEO of Melbourne after Paul McNamee was dumped just over a month ago.

Schawb will join his former Fremantle colleague in Chris Connolly and new President Jim Stynes as they try to turn around the fortunes of the AFL’s most struggling club.

Schwab started his career with the Demons, first as a cadet then as recruiting manager.

After a stint at Richmond, he was Melbourne CEO from 1998-2000.

Schwab was CEO of Fremantle from 2001 until last month.

Prior to that, he was general manager at Richmond.

Schwab is generally credited with turning around Fremantle’s off field woes and making them into one of the most financially stable clubs in the AFL.

Schwab will take up the position in October.
