The news just keeps getting worse for the Melbourne Football Club, after a school-yard accident left their young recruit Sam Blease with a possible season ending injury.

The 18-year-old was playing football at his Yarra Valley Grammar High School when he was tackled and fell awkwardly, fracturing his fibula.

Blease sustained the injury on Thursday and will require surgery to repair the fracture.

Demons football manager Chris Connolly said it’s a setback for the youngster, who will now have to wait until the 2010 pre-season to make his AFL debut.

The Demons recruited Blease with their second pick at No.17 in last November’s national draft.
