MELBOURNE coach Dean Bailey regards the Demons season so far as a pass, rating it a five out of 10.

The Demons, who finished in last position in 2009, have received praise from the football public for their rapid improvement this season.

They sit in 13th position currently, with four wins and a draw.

And there is a clear path for the future evident, with Tom Scully, Jack Trengove and Jordan Gysberts all earning Rising Star nominations.

“I think we’ve progressed. We’ve missed some opportunities,” Bailey told AAP, as reported by the Herald Sun.

“Is it a pass? If you win four-and-a-half out of 12 it doesn’t look great from a statistical point of view, so we’re probably five out of 10, just sitting there.”

The Demons, in reality, could be in finals calculations.

In its two matches with Collingwood this season, Melbourne has managed a one-point loss and a draw.

In Round 7 against the Western Bulldogs, the Demons lost by just four points.

Melbourne will face Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.
