The Demons have become the first club in nine years to have the first two draft picks in this year’s NAB National Draft.

St Kilda chose Nick Riewoldt and Justin Koschitzke at No.1 and 2 in 2000 and both players have developed into champion forwards for the club, as they prepare for an assault at the 2009 flag.

Melbourne have only won seven games in their last two seasons, four in 2009 and three in 2008, which qualifies them for the priority draft picks. Dandenong Stingrays midfielder, Tom Scully is widely tipped to be the No.1 pick in this year’s draft, with the Demons are set to have the option of choosing between Peel Thunder’s Anthony Morabito, Gary Rohan from the Geelong Falcons, Sturt’s Jack Trengove or Gippsland Power’s John Butcher for their second priority pick.
