MELBOURNE No. 1 draft pick Jack Watts wants to play in Round 1 next year with the club’s first two selections on Thursday, as well as St Kilda midfielder Luke Ball.

Melbourne will spend today reviewing their draft strategy for Ball and their other picks, but they have already decided on Tom Scully and Jack Trengove as their selections at No. 1 and No. 2.

The club believes it has a huge advantage, with the pair easily the best players in a draft that falls away after a few selections.

Watts was last year considered the best of a strong bunch of elite juniors, but the Demons placed too much pressure on him as he struggled to adapt to the pace of the game, as well as dealing with schooling life. Now, after finishing school and stacking on 8kg, he aims to play in Round 1 next year.

He hopes it can be alongside Scully and Trengove, who the Demons say have the talent to play senior football straight away.
