Melbourne coach Neale Daniher believes that AFL players should be excited about a tighter drug code, as it would prove that the majority of footballers stay clear of the illegal substances.
"I would have thought the AFL players would welcome a renewed vigour on testing just to show the majority of AFL footballers, 97-98 per cent, don't go anywhere near that stuff," Daniher said as quoted in the Herald.
"It's a slur on the players."
The AFL's name has been rubbed in the mud after the recent shocking drug scandals along with rape allegations and drink driving affairs that have headlined the sporting pages of all major newspapers.
