North Melbourne has received its first rising star nomination of the season with young defender Gavin Urquhart bagging the round 18 nod.
Urquhart who was a second round pick and number 21 overall in the 2006 draft has managed eight games this season and averaged 17 disposals.
The former rugby union player produced his best game so far on the weekend gathering 22 disposals in the Kangaroos come-from-behind win against the Brisbane Lions.
The young Queenslander is just 20 but has impressed in the kangaroos defence this season.
