North Melbourne’s assistant coach, Darren Crocker, will take over as caretaker coach for the second half of the 2009 season.

The news comes just as quickly as the news came that senoir coach Dean laidley had resigned on Tuesday morning. North Melbourne president James Brayshaw said that he didn’t try to convince Laidley to continue coaching at the club.

Laidley’s resignation came as the club was reviewing his position with the aim of letting him know whether he would continue coaching with the Roos in the 2010 season.

Laidley himself said that his resignation had been dealt with in a very proffesional manner, unlike his previous experience with contract negotations which was ugly and prolonged.

Besite his decision, Laidely expressed a desire to keep on coaching footy next year and didn’t seem fussed at what role he would play.

Laidley coached the Roos in 149 games for 72 wins, 75 defeats and two draws and took the Kangaroos to the finals in 2005 and 2007-08.
