North Melbourne has named current Magpie assistant coach Brad Scott as its new senior coach for the next three seasons.

The two-times Brisbane Lions premiership player, played 168 games with the Hawks and Lions before retiring in 2006.

Scott was chosen ahead of current care-taker Darren Crocker who took over the senior coaching role when Dean Laidley resigned after the round 12 loss to Adelaide. Crocker has since managed just one win from the past eight games which obviously didn’t help his bid to keep on coaching the side.

The Kangaroos were perhaps hoping to gain the services of favorite son, John Longmire, but it wasn’t to be with Longmire instead opting to make a bid as the next Sydney Swans coach in 2011.
